Daylight imaging of SSA targets through distributed volume non-Kolmogorov and anisotropic deep turbulence at low elevation angles

چکیده
Monte-Carlo simulations featuring Kolmogorov phase screens have long been used in understanding both the effects of atmospheric turbulence on imaging and the performance of turbulence mitigation methods. We have developed a new, high fidelity, non-Kolmogorov phase screen model that allows the orientation of anisotropy to vary arbitrarily. Our model is used to generate simulated video sequences featuring a common satellite-imaging target in lowelevation, daylight imaging scenarios, where these effects are thought to be common. These sequences demonstrate the effects of anisotropic, non-Kolmogorov turbulence, which can be unintuitive. We also briefly examine how these non-traditional features affect the performance of certain post-processing techniques, such as speckle imaging.

Compensating atmospheric turbulence effects at high zenith angles with adaptive optics using advanced phase reconstructors
Atmospheric turbulence degrades the resolution of images of space objects beyond that predicted by diffraction alone. Adaptive optics telescopes have been widely used for compensating these effects, but as users seek to extend the envelopes of operation of adaptive optics telescopes to more demanding conditions, such as daylight operation and operation at low elevation angles, the level of comp...
متن کاملAverage Polarization of Electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-Model Beams through Anisotropic Non-Kolmogorov Turbulence
Polarization properties of electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model beams propagating through the anisotropic non-Kolmogorov turbulence of marine-atmosphere channel are studied based on the cross-spectral density matrix. Detailed analysis shows that the average polarization decreases with increasing the spectral index, inner scale of turbulence and generalized refractive-index structure parameter....
متن کاملLight propagation through anisotropic turbulence.
A wealth of experimental data has shown that atmospheric turbulence can be anisotropic; in this case, a Kolmogorov spectrum does not describe well the atmospheric turbulence statistics. In this paper, we show a quantitative analysis of anisotropic turbulence by using a non-Kolmogorov power spectrum with an anisotropic coefficient. The spectrum we use does not include the inner and outer scales,...
متن کاملWander and Spreading of Gaussian-Schell Model Beams Propagating through Anisotropic Marine-Atmospheric Turbulence
The effects of anisotropic turbulence on the wander and spreading of Gaussian-Schell model beams propagating in non-Kolmogorov marine-atmospheric channel are investigated. Expressions for beam wander and long-term beam spreading are derived in all conditions of marine-atmospheric turbulence. Our results indicate that the beam wander and spreading of Gaussian-Schell model beams are lower in the ...
